AUTISM SOUTH AFRICA (ASA)
REGISTRATION OF SERVICE PROVIDERS
OVERVIEW OF THE PROCESS
THE AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF REGISTRATION
Autism South Africa (ASA) strives to inspire and support all services for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to attain and maintain a quality approved standard of service delivery.
The programme strives to evaluate and promote specialist knowledge in understanding the nature of ASD, as well as intervention strategies to meet the specific needs of people with ASD effectively and appropriately.
The Autism South Africa registration process encourages good autism practice, as well as doing its utmost to promote and protect the rights of individuals with ASD, as laid down by the constitution of the RSA.
These aims will be achieved by realising the following objectives;
- To register all service providers dealing with people with ASD with ASA.
- To lend ongoing support and contribute to the development of services.
- To periodically review the standard of the service delivered.
Service providers who meet the requirements for registration with ASA will receive formal recognition that they deliver a quality approved, autism specific service.
METHOD
- The service provider applies to ASA for registration.
- The service provider will receive documentation from ASA for completion.
- ASA will appoint an independent and appropriate team to implement the registration process.
- The service provider will be notified who serves on the team and who is the Chairperson.
- The completed documentation must be forwarded by the service provider to the Chairperson of the team.
- Depending on the team leaders, transport arrangements etc a quote will be supplied to the service provider for the implementation of the Registration process.
- The documentation will be reviewed within a month.
- The team will then arrange an on site visit of the facility with the service provider. During this visit the team would like to:
- Observe an intake interview (if applicable)
- Observe the program in practice
- View the physical structures
- Interview the Director and other relevant persons of the facility
- Review administrative and financial records
- Interview service users where possible and with permission granted by family members.
- The resulting report by the regional team will be sent to the service provider for written response / additional comments. This report and resulting response will then be submitted to an independent National Registration Committee for evaluation and discussion, with a final report being compiled.
- The National Report will either recommend or decline registration.
- The National Registration Committee will inform the applicant of their decision.
- In the case of declining the application, a full explanation will be provided and specific recommendations to meet the registration criteria will be made.
